What not to plant near beans

Alliums are the most damaging bean neighbors. Onions, garlic, leeks, shallots, and chives all release allelopathic compounds from their roots that inhibit rhizobium bacteria activity. Planting beans within 12–18 inches of alliums measurably reduces nitrogen fixation and bean yield.

Avoid these near beans:
